3 Things To Consider Before Painting Your Car Black

by Phillip Herrera

If you are like many people, you might love the way that a shiny black car looks. Black cars can be beautiful, and you might be thinking about having your own car painted black so that you can enjoy the same experience. However, it's important to know a few things before you choose to make this decision. Then, you can ensure that you are going to be happy with your car after you have it painted.

1. It Can Be Really Hot

Black cars don't just look hot -- they often are hot. If you live in a hot climate, you should know that a black car can be more prone to heating up on summer days. If you'd like to choose a car color that is going to be more comfortable when the temperatures rise, you may want to go with a lighter color that isn't going to attract heat quite as much. If you do choose to have your car painted black, it's important to park in the shade when you can and to put a sun shield up in your window so that you can help keep the temperature inside the vehicle to a minimum.

2. It Can Show Imperfections

Sure, a nice new black car can look great. If a black car gets scratched or dented, however, you should know that the damage can be much more noticeable than it would be with a car in a different color. If you do choose to paint your car black, you are probably going to want to do what you can to avoid any type of damage to the paint job, and you will probably want to go to a body shop to have dents, dings and scratches repaired, even if you would have ordinarily ignored them and chalked them up to ordinary wear and tear.

3. It's Hard to Keep Clean

Most cars look their best when they are freshly washed. However, you should know that it's going to be a lot more noticeable that your car is dirty if it's black or another dark color. If you're not able to wash your car on a regular basis or if you are going to mind it showing dirt every now and then, no matter how much effort you put in to keep it clean, you are probably going to want to go with another color.

As you can see, even though some people love having their cars painted black, it is a big decision to make. These are a few reasons why you might want to choose another color when having your car painted at the auto repair shop.
